You know what I love most about CM Punk?
He speaks for those who can’t speak for themselves. No matter what the subject he’s speaking on, there’s a group of people somewhere that is saying in their heads “He’s saying what I’m thinking.” I mean, they don’t call him the “Voice of the Voiceless” for no reason.
Earlier this week, my guy did it again. He spoke up for the people, once more.
This past Monday on WWE Raw, the show started off hot with the current World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk cutting a scathing and electrifying promo, geared towards a lot of people and topics that are rampant in the world of wrestling. Well, mainly in the WWE. The beginning of the promo was the usual venomous words towards his Wrestlemania 42 opponent, Roman Reigns. Nothing really new there (still good work). But what he said next was the most interesting portion of the promo.
Punk mentioned that he would not be silenced, and that he was “shooting” from the hip with what he was saying (for the kids that don’t know, the term “shoot” means he is saying what’s on his mind, not what is written for him.) The next target on his verbal rampage was none other than Randy Orton’s new best friend (more on that nextO), Pat McAfee, or as Punk coined him “Pat MAGAfee”. Pat recently inserted himself into the Cody Rhodes/Randy Orton angle recently and the fans are not loving it as much as the next person. It has been reported that his decision was NOT from WWE creative, but from the head honchos over at TKO (the parent company of the WWE and UFC). Punk also called out Pat’s agent, Ari Emanuel, to lower ticket prices for all the shows.
Yes, he really said all of this on national television, ladies and gentlemen.
If you know the history of CM Punk, you should know that he’s going to tell it like it is. Personally, as a fan, I love it. That’s really the main reason why Punk is such a captivating and polarizing figure in wrestling, then and now. If something is on his mind, you’re going to hear it, regardless if you agree with the man or not. And I agree with his latest beef towards Pat and his entry into one of the main event programs.
Why the fuck is Pat McAfee on my TV screen?
Like for real, WHY?!?! He doesn’t move the needle. He’s not that compelling (Okay, his match versus Gunther was entertaining. It had no right to be that good, but Gunther played a major role in that.) It could have been ANYONE else and I would have been fine with it. Hell, if The Rock came back and put himself in that spot, then that’s cool because at least there is history with him, Orton and Cody. There is ZERO history or heat with Pat. Everyone seems to be pissed at this TKO based decision, and I can’t blame them. This is one of the main reasons why I’ve been so turned off by the WWE product as of late. It’s been driven by TKO heads, a millions celebs and sponsors, and creating storylines that make absolutely no Goddamn sense. The last time the product felt hot was the lead up to Wrestlemania 40, and the last 2-3 years previous to that event. To me, that felt like the start of a new era, but in all reality, it was the end of an era in my books.
Look at me, dropping my own Pipebomb. I mean, I did drop one at work late last week, for good reason. (If any of my co-workers are reading this, it’s a IYKYK type of situation)
At this rate, the question can be asked “Is TKO killing the WWE?” It’s not dead, but the product is on wobbly legs. The fans see it. The wrestlers in the back see it.
Just ask CM Punk. He’ll tell you in his own words, whether you want to hear them or not.
