WE ARE INDIE #16: TWO THINGS CAN BE TRUE

One sided.

That’s how I can describe the current timeline that we live in. Everything seems to be one sided. Or, at best, the people in society today wants to have a “one size fits all” mindset when it comes down to life in general (marriage, career/job money, dating, hobbies, etc)

This article may or may not make any sense, but it’s okay because sometimes I can find myself rambling and having so many ideas run through my head, that what I write out will make someone ponder what the hell I just wrote LOL. Some might disagree with what I’m going to write, and that’s okay too! Maybe this will be the article that will create that thought/emotion. Or, maybe it will make sense but in a weird way. See how I’m rambling again? Okay, let’s move on.

I thought of one or two examples to highlight for this piece. With the rise of social media “experts” spitting off their advice behind a podcast mic or in front of their phone camera, we (me as well. Guilty of this) along the way forgot that while one opinion can be correct, the other side can also be correct as well. Just because someone thinks one side can be true, that the other cannot. Example: with the dating article I wrote a month ago, I said that dating doesn’t suck, but the people do. While that is true (and my personal opinion), I can also say that the dating platform/world also sucks as well. I may lean more on one thought, but I won’t completely dismiss the second opinion, even if I don’t fully agree with it. I think we have limited ourselves mentally to the point where we don’t want to think or even concern ourselves with another POV.

Another example I can think of is one of the most talked about subjects in the last decade: Free Speech. One portion of the coin is that yes, everyone is entitled to say whatever they want, which is correct. The other portion of the same coin? That there are consequences to your words which, funny enough, a certain group of people that voted for the guy running our country seems to keep forgetting THAT part. The part where you’re not free from the punishment. You can pop off at the mouth as much as you want, but eventually the weight of your words, especially if they’re hurtful and filled with anger and hate, will catch up to you. And the results can lead to legal, mental or even physical consequences. See Chud the Builder and his legal situation as a prime example. (Also wrote an article on this, called “Clout is Fun. Consequences are Not”, which is on this website. Cheap plug, I know). One more example is that you can be strong and resilient, but also you can say to yourself that you need a break too. Just because you need a break from life, it doesn’t make you weak or unable to achieve anything you want to do.

Bottom line, society today needs to accept that two thoughts can co-exist at the same time. It will never be just one part of it, even if most people agree with one part more over the other, the second portion of the thought will ALWAYS be there.

Like it or not.
